About Lauren

Hi, I’m Lauren O’Connell—The Modern Astrologer.

Since 2016, I’ve guided thousands of people through life’s turning points using astrology as a tool for emotional clarity, soul timing, and real world self-care. But my interest in astrology started long before I began doing this work professionally.

Growing up, my grandmother would tell me I was “an old soul” and “going to be all over the place”—her loving way of saying I’d probably be lost AF figuring out what to do with my life. She read birth charts, did palm readings, and used a crystal ball—the one I’m holding in my photo. She was deeply wise, nurturing, intuitive—and also smoked cigarettes and cussed like a sailor. That mix of warmth, depth, and irreverence? Let’s just say it runs in the family.

A woman with long, wavy blonde hair holds a mirror close to her face, reflecting her lips.

I found astrology the way a lot of people find their purpose: in the middle of a Saturn Return storm. Think: a major breakup (yes, the kind heading toward a ring), a new job, and a full-blown “who am I and what the hell am I doing with my life” identity spiral. That led me down a rabbit hole of research—and what started as a curiosity quickly became the thing. I couldn’t not share what I was learning. One post turned into readings, readings turned into referrals, and before I knew it, I had a business. In 2021, I walked away from a great job to do this work full time.

I’ve spent years studying the art and soul of chart reading, tracking transits, decoding emotional patterns, and helping people meet themselves more fully through the stars. I don’t just believe in astrology—I live it. My chart has a Grand Cross (yes, the kind that makes astrologers wince), and my Moon–Chiron conjunction in the 8th house makes me a walking case study in emotional depth, inherited wounds, and the healing power of shadow work.

Over time, my work naturally gravitated toward the Moon. Then life made it personal. Being the caretaker for my mother through cancer, and moving through the grief of losing her, made the Moon archetype not just a lens, but a lifeline. It deepened everything. Tracking lunar cycles and building practices of care through change became the heart of my work—not just for others, but for myself too.

That’s why my work goes beyond the surface. We don’t just talk archetypes—we uncover patterns, rewire emotional reactions, and build a practice of living that’s both intuitive and grounded. I created The Moon Method to help others do the same, combining natal moon work with real-time lunar tracking for deep emotional awareness. I also publish the annual Moon Ritual Workbook and host live New and Full Moon events that blend teaching, tarot, and collective ritual. And yes, I still offer predictive readings—because I love timing work and helping clients align with the future they can feel coming.

While my work is deeply spiritual, my life outside of it is refreshingly human. I believe healing should be effective, not performative. Astrology should make your life more honest, not more complicated. And self-care should include both meditation and martinis.

A Few Fun Facts

  • 01.

I started diving deep into astrology during my Saturn Return: breakup, job change, identity unravel. Total cliché. Total calling.

  • 02.

My grandmother told me I was an “old soul” long before I knew what that meant—and now her crystal ball lives on my desk.

  • 03.

My birth chart is basically a cosmic Rubik’s cube—Grand Cross, Moon–Chiron conjunction in the 8th house. If your chart feels like “a lot,” same.

  • 04.

I’m Reiki-attuned, read tarot, practice numerology, feng shui and human design, play crystal sound bowls, and dabble in runes and palm readings—blame my Gemini Moon and Manifesting Generator self; I collect modalities like most people collect houseplants. Will I use them all professionally? Maybe not. Will I study them like my life depends on it? Absolutely.

  • 05.

When my mom got cancer, I uprooted from Chicago to Portland to be her caretaker until she passed. It was the hardest and most transformative chapter of my life. If I hadn’t known my birth chart—and how clearly this kind of path was written into it—I might not have stepped into it as bravely. Astrology didn’t make it easier, but it helped me walk in with my eyes open. That chapter reshaped me, and it continues to inform the depth and compassion I bring to this work.

  • 06.

After I lost my mom, I packed up my life and moved to Santa Monica just because it felt right. Still one of the best decisions I’ve made.

  • 07.

I live with a 25lb Bengal cat named after a crystal and my mom’s dog, who I inherited and now lovingly refer to as my emotional support assistant. They both take their roles in my spiritual workspace very seriously.

  • 08.

No, I don’t have a spiritual book or podcast to recommend—I don’t do that in my downtime. I watch Bravo and drink martinis with my girlfriends. Outside of this work, I’m wildly normal.

  • 09.

I was a sorority girl, a theater nerd, and an athlete in college. I can break into song, rock a spray tan, and throw a ball better than most guys. Choose your fighter.

  • 10.

I write poems inspired by astrology, love, or the messy overlap of both.

  • 11.

One day, I dream of creating a spiritual-meets-self-care talk show. Think The View, but with an astrologer, a therapist, a pop culture expert, and a couple of mystical wildcards who know how to laugh and go deep.
